How we can support you to help young carers

Every young carer is different but they often need things like:

•      Information about the illness or issues affecting their family

•      A chance to ask questions

•      Someone to talk to who they can trust

•      Information about what to do in a crisis

•      Practical help and training

•      To know that their situation is not uncommon

•      To have a break and the chance to be children / young people

•      To know that their role is understood and valued

•      Support and understanding at school

Connect young people with useful services

You’ll find lots of different services that can help young carers when you browse our resources.

Every young carer is entitled to a Young Carers Assessment to help understand how their caring affects them and to find ways to make life easier. This can be done with a trusted adult, like a teacher, a social worker or a GP.

The adult that facilitates the assessment will then decide what help they can give and what support other services can provide.
