Sara Gowen – Co-CEO (Working days Wed-Fri)
Sara is responsible for the management of SYC and its staff, on behalf of the Management Committee. Sara also works closely with the charity's funders and other agencies to ensure that good quality and extensive support is made available to young carers and young people affected by substance misuse in their families in Sheffield. Sara is also SYC’s Safeguarding Lead.
Laura Selby – Co-CEO (Working days Mon-Wed)

Catriona Foster – Young People’s Project Coordinator
Cat coordinates our young people’s service. She also works with our groups, runs our school holiday activities and residentials, and provides one-to-one support for young people who are new to the project or who need extra support.
Luke Johnson - Young People's One-to-One Worker
Luke works with young people when they are new to our service, completing home visits and one-to-one work with them. He also helps them to join our groups and covers groups and holiday activities when other staff are off.
Tremayne Galloway - Young People's Worker
Trey works on our groups for young people, runs our school holiday activities and residentials, and also provides one-to-one support for young people who are new to the project or who need extra support.
Rachel Taylor - Young People's Worker
Rachel works on our groups for young people, as well as our school holiday activities and residentials. She also does one-to-one work when young people are new to the project or need extra support.
Katie Window - Young People's Worker
Katie works with young people when they are new to our service, completing home visits and one-to-one work with them. She also helps them to join our groups and covers groups and holiday activities when other staff are off.
Vicki Sampson - Young People's Worker
Vicki works on our groups for young people, as well as our school holiday activities and residentials. She also does one-to-one work when young people are new to the project or need extra support.
Taryn Grieve - Young People's Worker
Taryn works on our groups for young people, as well as our school holiday activities and residentials. She also does one-to-one work when young people are new to the project or need extra support.
Newton Shambare - Young People's Worker
Newton works on our groups for young people, as well as our school holiday activities and residentials. He also does one-to-one work when young people are new to the project or need extra support.
Elena Woodcock - Assistant Project Worker
Elena works on our groups for young people, as well as our school holiday activities and residentials.
Helen Bolt - Family Project Coordinator
Helen coordinates our Family Project. She works with families where an adult is being cared-for by their child. She aims to reduce the amount of caring that a young carer takes on by supporting the person they care for over 12 one-to-one support sessions. She also runs group and networking events for parents, to reduce their isolation and equip them with the skills to manage and improve their own lives.
Maryam Mahmud - Family Project Worker
Maryam works with families where an adult is being cared-for by their child. She aims to reduce the amount of caring that a young carer takes on by supporting the person they care for with issues that affect the whole family, e.g. debt, housing, benefits, accessing services. Maryam does this by providing up to 12 sessions of one-to-one support.
Danielle Ball - Family Engagement Worker
Danielle works with families where an adult is being cared-for by their child. She aims to help them reduce isolation and link then into activities, services and training that they want to join. She also helps run our parent network events and group work programmes for families in our serivce.
Rachel Cundy - Family Project Worker
Rachel works with families where an adult is being cared-for by their child. She aims to reduce the amount of caring that a young carer takes on by supporting the person they care for with issues that affect the whole family, Rachel is also involved in running parent networking events and groups for families in our service.
Shuna Beckett - Education Development Worker
Shuna works part-time and holds meetings, runs training and creates resources to help professionals identify and support young carers in schools, colleges and universities across Sheffield.
Laura Cole - Participation and Development Manager
Laura leads our Action Group and is Deputy Safeguarding Lead. She also works with a wide range of organisations in Sheffield to make them aware of the work of SYC and how they can best support young carers and young people affected by substance misuse in their families.
Denise Anderson – Office Manager
Denise works full time to provide administrative support to SYC and to ensure that the charity finances are properly managed. She also encourages new volunteers to support the charity and helps us to keep in touch with our young people and families by sending out regular letters and information.
Jane Leathley - Monitoring and Evaluation Officer
Jane brings a wealth of experience to SYC. She works part time to ensure that we can show evidence of all the good work we do, to help us keep getting money to continue supporting young carers and their families.
Sarah Gerrard - Fundraising and Monitoring Manager
Sarah’s role is to raise money so that SYC’s work with young carers and their families is able to continue. This involves applying for grants and also encouraging and supporting the Sheffield community to get involved by organising their own fundraising activities.
Nick Hardwick - Fundraising Officer
Nick's role is to build relationships with donors and supporters of SYC, as well as approaching and encouraging potential new supporters. He also maintains our social media platforms and website, keeping them updated.
Raphy Poon - Young Carers National Voice Coordinator
Raphy works one and a half days per week with Sheffield Young Carers to coordinate Young Carers National Voice, which brings together young carers from different areas of the country to campaign collectively on the issues that are important to them.
Volunteers, sessional workers and students on placement
Our staff team is supported by a dedicated team of sessional workers, volunteers and social work students on placement, without whom the support we offer to young carers would not be possible.
