'Ahoy there! In February half term, members of SYC’s Action Group spent a day on the Ethel Barge. Setting sail from Victoria Quays and cruising through the former industrial heartland of Sheffield towards Tinsley, they took in the sights, helped operate the locks and all took turns to steer the boat – a real highlight and something they will never forget!

It wasn’t all plain sailing though. On board, our Action Group held a panel for the Young Carers Activity Fund which awards grants of up to £300 to give young carers in the city a break from their caring role. Lots of attention was required and important decisions had to be made, but the barge and the peaceful canals were the perfect setting to do this.
