10-16 June 2019 is Carers Week: a national week of awareness-raising campaigns and events to recognise and celebrate the contribution of unpaid carers of all ages, from all over the UK.
To mark this year’s theme, which is ‘Getting Carers Connected’, we’re asking all of the young carers and families we help at SYC to ‘get connected’ by creating the longest-ever paper chain made by young carers in the world!
As well as the young carers and families we support, we’re asking all of our supporters and partners to help us by completing one or more paper chain links to add to our chain. Which is where you come in!
It really couldn’t be easier…
Simply download a copy of our paper chain template.
Carefully cut your template into four separate paper chain links using the dotted lines we’ve provided.
Write your message of support for young carers in the blank space provided on each link (e.g. ‘I think young carers do an amazing job in Sheffield’, ‘#thinkyoungcarer this Carers Week,’ or ‘Our school is proud to be #youngcarerfriendly’) OR simply decorate it if you’d prefer – the brighter and bolder the better!
Ask your friends, family, neighbours and work colleagues to complete any left-over links - and share this page by email or on social media to help spread the word.
Return your completed link/s to us by 5pm on Wednesday 12 June, by:
a) posting them to Sheffield Young Carers, Unit R7B, Sheaf Bank Business Park, 20 Prospect Road, Sheffield S2 3EN
OR
b) bringing your links down to our stall in Debenhams on the Moor between 10am on Monday 10 June and 4pm on Thursday 13 June.
When we’ve collected in as many links as possible, we’ll put our record-breaking paper chain together outside Debenhams before parading it up to the Town Hall, where we’ll make lots of noise for young carers! Hallam Square will then be the final destination for our young carers’ paper chain and the venue for our annual Carers Week celebration.

You can either meet us at the start of our parade (we will be gathering outside Debenhams on the Moor at 4.45pm and leaving promptly at 5pm) or at our Carers Week celebration in Hallam Square from 5.30-7pm. There will be drumming, craft activities and much much more, so please save the date or download a copy of our event flier here.
