And just like that, the summer holidays have been and gone! We can’t believe how quickly they have flown by this year, but maybe that is because of all the fun we’ve had this summer. Once again, our summer activities have been absolutely AMAZING so let’s have recap over what we got up to during the past 5 weeks!
The catalogue of summer holidays activities began with some arts, relaxation and crafts sessions. The sessions offered everyone who attended the chance to really enjoy and appreciate nature, as well as get creative with some arts and crafts (there was plenty of paint and glitter!!). The relaxation part was equally great, with it certainly having a calming affect on most our young people. The session was run by Sarah from Muriel Design, so a massive thanks again to Sarah for the awesome sessions!
The next activity was horse-riding, and like the week before, this was a huge hit with our young people! With so much demand for this activity, we had to split it into two separate days to make sure as many young people could come as possible. The horse-riding was great, with many of the young people looking like naturals on the horses. Everyone got stuck in (including with ‘mucking in’!) - it was a fantastic second activity, a massive thanks to Cloughfields for putting on two fab days!
Week 3 of activities saw the return of two SYC classics: Residentials and Hathersage! Yes, that’s right, for the first time since before Covid we were able to run both of these activities. The first residential was for 12+’s, where they went to Lockerbrook Farm Outdoor Centre in the Peak District for two days of outdoor activities. Everybody had great fun, with crate stacking being a firm favourite for our young people. As for Hathersage, it was a sweltering hot day out in the countryside, but that didn’t slow down those that came along from having fun! And after walking in the heat, getting to splash around in the Outdoor Pool was a wonderful, well received treat!
The next set of activities was the 16+ day out at Adventure Now and the north and south picnic and sports days. The 16+ day out was superb, with our young people that came trying their hand at archery, axe throwing and more. This day out was paid for through Cusp Films (@CuspFilms) fantastic film fundraiser, so we are very grateful to them! The north and south picnic days were also brilliant, with rounders matches being a highlight from both of the separate days (alongside the fact it didn’t rain - Woohoo!).
The last week saw more SYC residentials, this time the 8-12’s north and south residentials. Both of the residentials were at Parson House Outdoor Pursuit Centre, who put on a range of great activities which included wall climbing and abseiling down a bridge. Our young people also had a film night and enjoyed the games room too, with plenty of table football played. We really enjoyed ourselves with this one, so we hope that our young people did too!
And that’s it! All of our summer holiday activities were BRILLIANT and we hope that everyone who came along to any of the activities had a good time. A massive thanks must go to all those who helped to put on the activities, including funders, donors, venues, venue staff, SYC staff, SYC volunteers and most importantly, our young people! Without our young people getting involved in the way they do our activities wouldn’t be half as enjoyable as they are!
So now that summer is drawing to a close, SYC would like to once again thank everyone who was involved in our holidays activities. We also hope that everybody has had a great, relaxing summer break whatever you have been up to and that you are looking forward to the coming months (it will be Christmas in no time!!).
