The fundraising support we’ve received over the past few weeks has been truly inspiring.
From people who have crossed entire countries (well, islands...) for us, to organisations which have selected us to be their charity of the year, every penny makes a very big difference to our work with young carers and their families in Sheffield. Here are just a few of our fantastic fundraisers:
Woodseats Methodist Church
On Saturday 14 May, the Loxley Silver Band helped Woodseats Methodist Church celebrate their Centenary with an incredible brass band concert. Around 100 people attended the event which was a great success, raising an astonishing £523.60 for Sheffield Young Carers through ticket sales. We'd like to say a very big thank you to Michael, Mel (the mother of one of the young carers we're currently supporting) and everyone else at Woodseats Methodist Church, for choosing to support SYC.
Sainsbury’s High Street Local
Sainsbury’s chose us as their charity of the year for 2015/16. Over the past year they have raised awareness through displays in their city-centre shop windows, hosted a collection tin on every till, and held a number of fundraising events, including the Big Bike Ride 2015. We are now delighted to reveal their fundraising grand total – a very impressive £1,041.33! With thanks to everyone in-store (Kerry, Steve, Rob, Darren … and the list goes on) who worked so hard to make things happen.
The Acorn Amble
Earlier this year, our lovely trustee Emma put Sheffield Young Carers forward to become one of two beneficiaries of the Acorn Amble – a 22.5-mile sponsored challenge from Castleton in Derbyshire back to the Acorn Public House in Burncross, North Sheffield. Last Saturday, Emma and her friends put their best feet forward to complete the walk, accompanied by Luke, our very own one-to-one worker! The event was brilliantly organised and very well attended, with around 70 walkers taking on the 22.5 mile challenge. We’ll learn later this year how much was raised on the day but many thanks to all walkers and organisers in the meantime, for including us in such a great day out
