Young Carers Action Day 2025 - How are you going to support young carers?

Young Carers Action Day 2025 takes place on Wednesday 13th March! This years theme is ‘Give me a Break’, recognising all of the huge sacrifices that young carers make to support the family member/s that they care for. Find out more on how we’ll be marking Young Carers Action Day and how you can get involved…

Our YCAD plans kick off tomorrow, when alongside Sheffield Carers Centre, we deliver our joint training ‘Understanding Adult Carers and Young Adult Carers’. The training is for all professionals and will give you up-to-date information about the impacts that caring responsibilities can have on carers of all ages, as well as practical tips and resources for identifying and supporting them in your work. You can sign up to attend the workshop here.

Our M-PACT Team have recently produced a workbook which is now available if you’d like a copy! The ‘Finding My Way’ workbook, which is full of discussion points and creative activities, is designed to help professionals who are working with a young person impacted by family addiction. This will be coming as an online version to our website soon!

On Wednesday, we’ll have more of our 5 ways that you can get involved being released, including some ways that you can support SYC to ensure that we’re here to support young carers in the future.

Young Carers National Voice are campaigning again this YCAD and have produced a brilliant schools resource pack for professionals. Young Carers National Voice have also collaborated with Carers Trust to send a letter to the Chief Inspector of Ofsted, calling for young carers to get the in-school identification and support that they deserve. More information on both will be released on the Young Carers National Voice website here.

We’d also like to remind you of the Young Carers Covenant. The Covenant, which was launched for YCAD last year is a UK-wide commitment to young carers and young adult carers, aims to improve young carer’s lives and create fairer futures. Young people involved in creating the Covenant highlighted ten outcomes that are key to improving their lives. Any organisation or individual in a position to take action to help achieve these outcomes is urged to sign up to the Covenant. Could you sign the Covenant?

We hope that you’ve found this catch-up useful and that you’ve got some ideas brewing for how you can get involved to support young carers this YCAD. If you do get involved, make sure to let us know as we’d love to hear this!
