We are delighted to receive support from the local charitable trust, JG Graves, and from Trusthouse Charitable Foundation for our one-to-one work with young carers. We thank them to providing these vital grants that allow us to provide practical and emotional support to help young carers develop the confidence, resilience, skills and knowledge they need to cope with their caring.
A big thank you to the Lord Mayor
Following years of support for SYC, the new Lord Mayor, Cllr Anne Murphy, has chosen Sheffield Young Carers as one of her charities of the year, alongside four other local charities (Sheffield Royal Society for the Blind, Dementia Action Alliance, ArtWorks and Sheffield Hospital Charity Renal Unit).
Young Carers Action Group: Onwards and upwards!
We are over the moon to announce that BBC Children in Need has awarded Sheffield Young Carers £29,014 over three years to continue the work of our amazing Action Group.
Our Action Group was set up in 2015 to support young carers to build their skills, to help design and run our service, and to influence local, regional and national services and policies affecting young carers.
High Sheriff accolade for young carers
SYC were delighted to receive a special award from the High Sheriff of South Yorkshire, Julie Macdonald for all the work we do to support young carers in Sheffield. SYC were invited to the High Sherriff’s Legal Service at Sheffield Cathedral on Sunday 2nd April, followed by a reception in the Cutlers Hall to mark to end of Julie’s year in office.
Full Steam Ahead - Sheffield Young Carers Set Sail
This Easter holidays, it was “All Aboard” as ten young carers enjoyed an amazing adventure on the Ethel Barge. The Ethel Trust Community Barge is a local charity, providing boating trips to a community groups. Safe in the hands of the Trust’s experienced crew, the group set sail from Victoria Quays and leisurely made its way down the canal to Tinsley, taking in all the sights and scenery of the waterways that are normally hidden from view.
A marathon success
We are delighted to announce that one of our lovely trustees, Cathy Sinclair, is taking on the Virgin Money London Marathon to support young carers in Sheffield.
First aid, fun and a focus on our futures!
Sheffield Young Carers had a brilliant time at the University of Sheffield, learning emergency first aid skills kindly delivered by their medical students.
Buffalo's bequest to benefit young carers
On Sunday the 5th March 2017, we were delighted to accept a cheque for the sum of £3,000 from the Pride of Dinnington Lodge 4176 of the Royal Antideluvian Order of Buffaloes.

Dave walks length of Greek island for SYC
We may have found our most committed supporter yet! On Friday 29th April, Dave Richardson strapped on a 50lb backpack and set off on a 338.25-mile route over 8000ft peaks, right across the Greek island of Crete.
Ending on a high with VOYCE
On 30 April 2016 we bid a very fond farewell to our lovely VOYCE team. Staff members Kath Fitzpatrick, Ruth Lawson and Louise Wright had all worked tirelessly during their time on this four-and-a-half-year, Big Lottery-funded project, in partnership with local youth organisations Chilypep and Interchange.

During summer 2011, 15 young people from SYC were supported by Syeda (South Yorkshire Eating Disorders Association) to develop, make and taste some simple, healthy recipes to cook for themselves and their families, and to turn these into a recipe book and cookery show-style film to share what they had learnt.
